In 2018 you've really got to completely walk a few people through how to use your forum when you're starting up.  People do not know/remember how to use forums so it is not just a matter of finding a few people who share your common interest to start a forum.  You've got to find those people and in many cases you've got to sit with them and go though setting up an account and making a few posts.  Social media has really deteriorated people's patience and ability to figure out things.  People just want to click the like button and that's about all these days.
