Hi all,

Some servers (e.g. Godaddy) offer installation of SMF via an application.
This is very quick and easy, but as I read these forums I see a few people say they do not recommend installing SMF as an app.

I can't any explanation of why it is not recommended, and I wonder if someone can break it down to me?

So far, issues I have had using the godaddy app are:

*it installs as an older version, not the most updated version
*I do not have write access to the files, and can't change permissions via FTP, or on my file manager.  (Not sure if this is because it's an app or not though)

Thanks in advance for your help and experiences

Hello!

Well, basically because third party softwares can modify SMF files and you may have problems in the future with your forum. When I was a newbie in SMF, I also used software like Softaculus to install SMF, it was really quick, but when the forum grew up I experienced lot of problems and I had to reinstall it from scratch. I think it's unneccesary to go through that, mostly if you're able to download and install it with our official files.

Is not that difficult to install SMF using FTP :P
