Hi Guys, I just took over this forum a few months ago and have been getting my head around it. We had an issue today which had us off the air for a few hours and in my trouble shooting I realised the forum hadn't been updated for some time. Can anyone tell me the shortest path to updating from 2.0.4 to 2.0.13?

Cheers,

if you have mods installed http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Patching if you dont mind reinstalling your mods http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Upgrading i think patching and doing a good backup is the best way to go.

If you go with the patching method, it will have to be done several times if you use the upgrading method it can be done once, but you may run into problems re-installing some of you mods, are you comfortable with editing source files and using FTP?

You may be just fine doing the patching, but if you run into any problems let us know, it can be fixed...

Doing each individual patch (2.0.5, 2.0.6, etc.) is definitely safer and easier, especially if you are new to this.

Many mods need manual updates, which requires editing the code yourself.   It's not difficult if you've edited code before.

It really helps if you can work on a test db first, so you know exactly what will happen.

Thanks to everyone for the advice. Apologies to all for my delayed response. I had some issues with my business so had to put all this on the back burner. How would it work to set up a clean install of the latest version and then import the data from the current version?

There are no database changes from 2.0.4 to 2.0.15, you can upload the 2.0.15 large upgrade package and it will work with your existing database.  You will lose all mods and customizations, but you'll have a clean install.  Or you can patch from .4 to .15 in package manager, as suggested above.
