Hello!

Going to start another thread here. I upgraded my forums to 1.1.21 and plan on moving them to 2.0.x. However I want to make sure they are fully functioning before I completely upgrade. At the moment, all of the links in my forums create an extra http//(without the semi colon) Ex. http://http//www.domain.com/xxxx.htm [nofollow]. Only the links that are created in the messages are displaying this. Their titles are displayed as http//www.domain.com/xxxx.htm [nofollow]. I've looking through my setting and can't find anything related to this. I would love some guidance on how to take away the http//.

Thanks!

Maybe in the configuration of the site or at the time of installing the forum you'd added a "http: //" more.

Try editing settings.php and check the links.

Hey all,

I've ran the Repair_settings.php and nothing changed the formatting. Here is a link to one of the pages, anything that is linked in a post gets the http// without the needed colon to complete the link.

http://forums.homepokertourney.com/index.php/topic,14.0.html [nofollow]

If you scroll down, the signature links also have the same issue.

Thanks!

Steve

DO NOT pm me for support!

We've seen this before.

If it's the same issue, it's caused by having a trailing "/" in the "Forum Url" field in Admin > Config > Server Settings > Database & Paths

Thank you for replying,

I've checked that as that was a common problem discussed on the forums. Nothing is trailing the end of my Forums URL, it ends with my domain.com [nofollow] (nothing after the .com).

Shambles

Does that entry start with http:// or https:// (including the slashes and the colon) ?

The exact Forum URL is //forums.homepokertourney.com [nofollow] in settings.

Arantor

There's your problem. 1.1.x does not support schemaless links at all.

Colin

Have you considered making the upgrade to 2.0, Alex?

I plan to, I just want to make sure the forum is set and working properly before I completely upgrade.

I apologize for my answer. I misread what your problem.

What mods do you currently have installed? Do you have any censorship settings setup?

It's nothing to do with mods!

The issue is that 1.1 doesn't support //domain.com/ style links as this wasn't a concept in 2006 when 1.1 came out! It's never going to support them, either.

There's also no point doing it in 2.0 either because the way 2.0's SSL support works (because it's the way Let's Encrypt works, and the browsers in general expect it to work) is that the entire forum should be SSL throughout, meaning that the URL should simply be https://domain.com/ anyway and that there is little benefit any more to // links except for embedded content, which you're not handling anyway.

And before anyone levels the 'but HTTPS takes more processing power'... it pretty much hasn't in a decade. Modern machines (especially servers) have built in dedicated hardware for handling the encryption.

The exact Forum URL is //forums.homepokertourney.com in settings.

Could you not at least make the change as I hinted at, just to try, so to speak...?

I changed the url to http:// and I'm still having the same issue. I can't link to HTTPS as of yet. I just recently was given control of the website and forums. None of the domains were secure so now I'm working through the SSL and let's encrypt. The main site holds fine, but I get a bunch of errors with my images in the forums under HTTPS so I'm holding off on that until I learn a little more to actually know what I'm doing on that end.

I appreciate everyone's input and will try what ever you guys suggest, I'm just not sure what you're suggesting. Not trying to be difficult, just my knowledge in this isn't very strong(but i'm trying to learn!).

Illori

once you upgrade to SMF 2.0(.14) you will get the image proxy which will fix the issue with the page being not secure. which we are hoping to get released very soon.

Awesome! I will get working on that right now and hopefully have the forums up to 2.0 so I can get the SSL going! I am still curious as to what I need to do to fix the issue with the linking. Any ideas? Or will upgrading fix that too?

Illori

hopefully it will fix the issue, we will know better once you successfully upgrade.

AlexHPT

Upgrading worked! I guess the answer to all the 1.1 problems is just got to 2.0...

Thanks everyone for the support!
