Make sure users do not use their email address as username

Is there a way that I can keep my users from using their email address as their username?

I have tried to find an answer, but there are a lot of posts about emailing the username and I can't find anything on my question...

Maybe I found even more intelligent solution with reserving name. In Admin panel/ Members/ Registration/ Set Reserved Names - if it works like I think, if you add @ to the list, users probably won't be able to have @ in their profile anymore which means users won't be able to use email since @ is banned for them.
Thoughts?
