Sending mail from forum by SMTP - does it just not work at all?

Arantor - our web hosting provider told us that the entire server was blacklisted after someone else on the shared server got hacked some months ago. But mxtoolbox.com also shows blacklistings.

But that shouldn't affect gmail - either via smtp or phpmail!

That's why I want to know exactly what kind of blacklisting you're talking about because there are multiple kinds - AND they can affect GMail.

Arantor - have asked my webhost, awaiting his reply. Had no idea serverbased email blacklists could affect gmail (unless of course it was a gmail address acting from that site that caused the blacklisting, in which case it would make sense that that particular gmail addy gets blacklisted!) But that shouldn't apply here, as we've not used gmail previously.
