PHP upgrade to 7 and 7.1 question

Im running SMF 2.0.14 with ZERO problems and my theme is running with no problems.   

With the issues I read with others and the SMF upgrade, is the PHP upgrade as touchy ? (Being everything else is p to date)

Can anyone tell me the advantages of doing that?  I am currently on Version information: 4.0.10.18

yes you can go with PHP 7 upgrade if you are on SMF 2.0.14 already

Running 7.0.15 for some months, all clear with 'near stock' 2.0.14.

But some mods may complain. Any problems, just set php back to the previous ok version, while working on finding any needed fix\update for some eventual mod problem.
