Boards and messages tables relationship

Do anyone know how are boards and messages table related on the database  schema?

I explain: I uploaded a backup that was full of spam and avoided all the spam messages. All was ok, but now the boards says that I have thousands of replays that doesn't exists anymore.

Can anyone help me to build a query to delete all the orphan posts? (if they exists, cause may be is just a number that I have to update)

Use the maintenance tools in the admin area, they can deal with this correctly.

...sort of. It's not a simple relationship.

and deleting message directly in the database is ***NOT*** recommended, specifically because of the complex associations
