No PHP trim() on subject?

I just noticed that PHP trim() is not used on newly posted topics - is this a bug or is there a reason it's not used?

A lot of my thread subjects have unnecessary white space in it (left or right side) and a simple trim() would take care of this issue.

It is not a bug because it has never been an issue that had to be dealt with.

Either your users are adding spaces, or something is badly configured that is adding space....

In the first case, if users want spaces, then we have always assumed that was what they wanted and what should be displayed
In the second case, you should fix the underlying problem instead of trying the fix the result
