Hi, I can't remember which files should I edit in order to complete the forum migration to a new domain.

Basically I put the forum in maintenance mode on the old URL, exported the DB, uploaded it to the new domain along with all other files but every time I try logging in, it goes to the old URL.

I edited the Settings.php, still goes to the old URL.

What did I forget?

Thank you

Arantor

Thanks, I tried it but all the info it displays are correct.

The only different things are the language and the cookie

this is the forum home page:

http://www.investireinazioni.it/forum/index.php

I cannot even see the menu...just the maintenance message is there. :(

did you follow https://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Hosting_-_How_do_I_move_my_SMF_forum_to_a_different_host ?

same process when moving to a new domain.

Step 1 - I copied the files from one folder to the new folder within the same cpanel hosting plan.

Step 2 - of course I moved and uploaded the db

Step 3 - I edited the settings.php and ran this:

UPDATE smf_messages SET body=REPLACE(body, "http://www.investireinborsa.club", "http://www.investireinazioni.it");

Tried maintenance mode reset ? > https://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=538769.msg3828894#msg3828894

thanks...now we know that it's not connecting to the db

I wonder if editing the settings.php takes hours like when you change DNS but I don't think so...or maybe the path is wrong...the old URL was the main domain, while the new one is an addon domain within the same hosting so do you think the path is right or maybe should I remove www. ?

Maybe first go to phpmyadmin and check that the db is uploaded correctly, all tables ok, correct table prefix.
When that is out of the way, back to repair_settings.php and triple check everything, some details may have been overlooked.

Also, the reason that we recommend repair_settings.phoninstead of manually editing settings.php is because there are several places in the DATABASE, where paths and URLs are stored that need to be corrected.  The sql that you posted is not actually relevant to moving the forum... it is needed, eventually, but not changing it won't affect the actually running of the forum.

I uploaded a second copy of the db

same result  :-\

I really have no idea where is the mistake...it must be a very dumb one because I was able to do the migration months ago when I moved it to another server but cannot do it within the same one.

Illori

are you actually running repair_settings.php and making sure it has the correct values in place?

I think so...

Illori

it is telling you the password or the server for the database is incorrect, this has to be fixed first.

Segnali

uhmm weird I double checked it ten times

now I just edited the settings back with the old database...and it's working perfectly so I am wondering: is there any issue to use the old database with 2 domains?

Illori

if it is active on both domains then no you cannot do that.

Segnali

thanks everyone, I started all over again and now works fine, I guess I made a typo somewhere maybe in the password.

Cheers
