I don't always use portals, but I like a clean looking site a pet peeve of mine is duplicate actions.
If I run a portal the options are to have a Member block or use the stack header logins, reg, logout.
I wont use both.

So I started this thread to ask if you use portals what purpose do you use them for and do you even use the member login blocks
or just use the stock ones.

Just trying to get some over all view how you all use them, and the one question about logins how do you do them?

Thanks

My biggest forum doesn't have any portal or website, it's just a standalone SMF.
I do however have other sites that use portals to make a "front page".
I avoid using anything that would double existing functionality, and that includes logins and so on.
I like to keep things simple. :)

How you can help SMF

SaltedWeb

Hi Lex, thanks for the answer I should have marked it solved. I did exactly that removed the duplicates and used the Portal for just two things to get a clean look. But thank you for the response.

That's the thing about a portal, you don't have to use it all, just the bits you need.  ;)

We use TinyPortal for a Front Page and side blocks on the index page. Logins are from SMF on both the Front Page & the Index page because some members bookmark the index.php & I didn't want to force the Front Page for every login.
