SMF's unnecessary antics: Bug in "Move-topic"
« on: February 17, 2018, 09:39:15 AM »
Try to move a topic, when it contains special characters!

Reproduce:
Let's create a topic like: 'How "funny" this can be'
(with quotation marks for the sake of the argument!)
post+save

Next:
Try to move this topic to another board.

Here begins the problem! SMF manipulates your topic, converts " to &quot
and thus it looks broken.

Try with others, not much better...

Conclusion:
It escapes me why SMF tries to amend your subject when you only want to MOVE a topic.
The ADDITIONAL OPTION of renaming the topic is good, but that's beside the point here.

Hope this helps!
Please fix!

currently SMF 2.0.15 on PHP 5.5.22

Tested it as well on my 2.0.15 board, it works fine.
Look's like a mod is messing it up, any installed mod related to topic management ?

Or BBC parsing, URL handling, auto embedding?

i posted about this in the team boards. if the topic you are splitting has quotes in the subject the result has the &quot in the subject. try to split a message from this one.

That appears to be true yes, somewhere it seems SMF does forget to handle them correctly.
