Pardon me for being new to this.  I just installed the SMF 2.0.15 and haven't done any customizations.  I've noticed it renders quite well on desktop browsers but on a Samsung S7 it is difficult to read.  I browsed around and found a lot of bug discussions but have found it difficult to determine what, exactly, is the design intent for version 2.1 and haven't been around here long enough to know the history.

Question is - what are the best options for mobile devices?

Welcome to SMF.

Version 2.0.x was made before mobile devices were really a thing and is not responsive. 2.1 will be of course but it is still in beta and not ready for a production site.

Your best bet would be to either install the smf curve responsive mod- https://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=4040

Or search our theme site for a theme that is responsive (mobile friendly)- http://custom.simplemachines.org/themes/index.php?action=search;basic_search=responsive

Sweet.  I will check those out, beginning with the first as desire is to keep things as simple and manageable as possible.  Totally new to this and I've got a lot of work ahead.  Key word is "responsive" whilst I was searching for "rendering"!

Thanks

Hope you find a theme you like, there are good options out there. In the meantime, I'll mark this topic solved for now, but if you have further questions feel free to post back and mark the topic not solved again.
