help install help needed (im am a novice)

hi all,have got smf 1.0rc2 the smileys don,t work just a small white box and a red box which is not that bad but want to upgrade to latest version...but not got a clue???i get all confused so give up,is anyone prepared to go through with me step by step....
I am very new to ftp and all that so would really like some help..

I can do this for you. If you like to do it yourself, just add me to msn. Or if you like me to do it, send FTP pass as a PM. And tell to which version you want your SMF should be upgraded.
