Help with SMF installer and MySQL on Yahoo

I've uploaded smf 1.05 onto a Yahoo small business page but I get this error when using the default choices on the main installer page:

Cannot connect to the MySQL database server with the supplied data.

If you are not sure about what to type in, please contact your host.
Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (46)
Click here to try this step again.

I've also tried making new databases with the mySQL database manager but that doen't seem to be working.

I believe yahoo uses mysql for the server field instead of  localhost.  Ask them what server do you connect to.
