Internal server error 500 related to cookies or session

After a few month of using forum user gets "Internal server error 500" on all pages, error may randomly disappear for short time, but always back.
Clearing cookies fix it for another few month.
Any suggestions on how to fix this once and forever?
My setup: SMF 2.0.15
Cookies timeout 36000 minutes (25 days)
Store cookies in database - NO (cause when yes there's another error, already asked here)
Allow browsers back to cashed page - yes
Session lifetime - 2000 seconds

First, I'd answer the question Lex posted in this thread, so we'd know if the problem is solved or not.

Second, your forum URL.

Third, PHP version and what are your forum's caching settings.

I have no idea how caching works so i never touched it

What the hell is that blue phone button in the bottom right corner ???. Is that from some ad management mod ???... because it doesn't look like it. It's from fastcallagent.com.ua. Does that seem familiar to you? Did they pay you to put their ad on your site? Are you on a paid or a free host?

ah...   another cache issue.

Are you currently getting the 500 error?

If so -- or, when you do, please ZIP up the contents of the cache directory and attach it to a post?
Also, look at your server side error log (error.log, errorlog. error_log. or something similar) and tell use what file is causing the 500 error.

You can then delete all data*.* files in the cache directory to recover the site... but we need a copy of the file that is causing the error to debug.

Familiar, this is some call back service, not ad, but still horrible. Installed in "counters" menu where Google Analytics should go on normal sites. Paid host, but free call back service plan.

Kindred is only asking for the cache files and the error log since we've had a few threads recently related to this problem (corrupt cache files). We would really appreciate you input ;). Submitting the cache files and the error log would help us solve the corrupt cache files issue :).

And we don't need the error to occur, as long as you haven't emptied the error log. When the error occurred, an entry in the error log was made, so if you haven't emptied the error log, that error is still in there ;). All you have to do is copy the content of the cache directory and the error log, put them in an archive and post them on the forum (if the file is too big to be attached, share it on a file sharing host, like zippyshare or a similar one).

Ummm... gigs. No.


We need the data files from the cache directory when the error is happening. If the error is not happening, the nothing will be wrong

Yeah, but the corrupted cache file is still somewhere in there, right? It just hasn't been called by the script, right?

Scratch that, I'm just tired I guess. The script can't load, thus the file being called is corrupted. If the script can load, that means it recreated the file... duh ::).

Got the error.
I erased ip address, looks like goes in circles with the same lines. There no info of what file caused it so i didn't upload any from cache.

you're using suhosin... assuming you're using apache, too... if you aren't this is enough to get you in the right direction via google...

go to your ........./conf.d/suhosin.ini file... remove the ';' from the line:

;suhosin.cookie.max_vars = 100

and change 100 to 1000, such as:

suhosin.cookie.max_vars = 1000

you may possibly be able to do this in your user.ini, php.ini or htaccess in your forums root directory if your host allows override.  simply add to user.ini or php.ini:

oh... edited to add: take out the trash more often!!! read "http://php.net/manual/en/session.configuration.php" and adjust your php.ini accordingly... the settings in the article are a bit aggressive... what i'd rec is:

probability of 10000 and divisor of 1.....
