Upgrading smf and php at the same time.

Currently I am on php5.3.26 with smf 2.0.13.
To upgrade to smf 2.0.15 am I in a catch22?
If I upgrade php the host does not have a way to revert back to php5.3.26.
So will smf2.0.13 run on say php5.6 till I upgrade?
Or what is the proper path to follow to upgrade both applications?

SMF 2.0.13 will run on PHP 5.6 just fine as will SMF 2.0.15.

Are you absolutely sure?
Because as I stated I can't revert back to php5.3.26. Due to how the whm cp works.
Is php 5.6 the limit?

I am absolutely sure.

2.0.13 works on PHP 5.0 through to PHP 5.6.
2.0.15 works on PHP 5.4 through to PHP 7.0.
