XenForo --> SMF converter?
« on: October 16, 2018, 02:27:47 AM »
There is a possibility that I may take over a XenForo site.

In case this does happen, I'd much prefer to convert it to SMF
1. Because that's what I'm used to; and
2. Because XenForo costs money I don't have.

It appears to be a current / recent version of XenForo in use (2.0 or even 2.1)

I looked at the list of converters here: https://download.simplemachines.org/index.php?converters
and cannot find any converter for XenForo listed there. :(

XenForo seems reasonably widely used, so I'd have thought a converter would be available ?

In order to achieve a conversion (by whatever means may be suggested) what files/ directories would I need to obtain from the current forum owners?

Thanks.

At the very least I would think you need a database dump and all user content (attachments, avatars and some such if any). Would not hurt to have copies of the source files too just in case.

If you can grab a hold of a database dump, maybe someone can take a look at it ;).

Well it's looking possible that my managing/takeover (for want of a better word) may go ahead.
I should be able to get all the files and certainly the database.

Yes, the forum directory itself does contain the images, attachments and much more, but it will next to impossible to make anything of it - it doesn't contain words, for example (content)....

I just saw this thread, but am not sure how useful it might be.

A Xenforo converter would certainly be most useful !  (and is a notable 'gap' in the current list of available converters).

Alternatively, does anyone know whether myBB or phpbb forum software has converters for importing Xenforo forums? If so maybe it could be achieved via a two stage process.  Convert Xenforo -> other free forum software -> SMF

I'd much rather do it directly though, as probably less chance of screw ups (and I'm not familiar with any other forum software either).

I have looked around and myBB does a merge system that can convert XF2, so it's possible to do a 2 stage merge to get to  SMF.
Check out this great sites.
