I don't really want to loose all my forum again that's why want to be sure how to do it correctly.

It'd be temporary as we'd be able to spot where the parse error is but if you want you could create a localhost copy for testing using something such as XAMPP that way your online counterpart wont be effected.

Yes, I tried it many times for a few mods but no one support some of them anymore.

Sadly, support for mods is generally handled by their authors and if they're not around anymore then support is likely to be minimal to other users of that mod or none at all.

Though like Kindred said Simple Portal is well supported to the point they have an entire site for it, try asking there.
