not everyone knows enough to manage a VPS or dedicated server themselves.

holy crap this is an understatement... I STRUGGLED to get it right.

True, however there are managed VPS hosts out there. The cost factor is usually the issue.

and there are services you can pay a one time fee to that will set you up for your needs... I wish I had known about them prior... A matter of fact, it may do the users of this site some good to have a thread dedicated to this in the Server Settings board- one that offers a detailed configuration and settings that is a SOLID foundation to start from... If i just had time i'd do it- talking about apache build (if using apache) and all the mods and packages, and their settings (such as perhaps a httpd or php.ini sample).

OK thx all I just update the software to 2.0.15 and will change the PHP to 7.1
I ll keep you posted from the results
thx!!!
What upgrade method did you use in the end? The large upgrade package?

Is there a way to upgrade without the need to reinstall all mods? As far as I can see that one is here: https://custom.simplemachines.org/upgrades/ But in my case that means I have to go from 2.0.11 to 2.0.12 to 2.0.13 to 2.0.14 to 2.0.15 I'll just start with the first step then...

Thanks! That seems really very straight forward!
