DB error only affects some users

2.0.15 install, 10-12 mods, get this error for 'Show new replies to your posts.' in owner's admin account, not in mine -

Expression #1 of ORDER BY clause is not in SELECT list, references column 'freeadzf_smf1.t.id_last_msg' which is not in SELECT list; this is incompatible with DISTINCT

Was also having problems with foreign language strings being mixed in with english, but looks like that's fixed.  Possible database damage after migration.
