Howdy, once again, y'all!

Question to the experts here:

Is there a purpose or reason for all the nested spans in 2.0's templates?  I see a bunch of them... and though I've relived my page of most of them at this point, I have this feeling they serve some sort of purpose i just haven't figured out?

example:
<span class="floatright"><span></span></span>

I've been whittling away in attempt to clean a forum up of all the clutter, and went live using the 'adjusted' default templates, and these nests have been removed for the most part with no unexpected impacts.  My concern, fwiw, is encountering a mod at some point that is looking for those nests and with intent to stick something in there?  Other than this, I can't come up with a reason that makes sense...

care to enlighten a fella?

thanks!

It's for the theme. It's mostly there for the rounded corners to actually work as there was no better way to style it for IE6.

ahh- this makes a lot more sense.

the world is a much happier place since ie6 was beat down, no?
