Just guessing, without really looking in to it - You have a "mentions" mod, that is checking if a post is approved or not, and you are not using moderation, so the check is against something that doesn't exist.

would that be the extra moderation setting under core features? Maybe I have something set incorrectly.

I have the warning system turned on, and post moderation turned off under core features.

It's more likely to be your theme; does your theme have a Display.template.php file?

Now I'm curious - that bit of code is from @mention members - in Subs-Post.php, and the mod doesn't touch Display.template.php.

Yeah, I know, great innit?

OK, so even if post approval is turned off, the underlying mechanics still work, because if you have 100k posts and then turn on approval, you don't want to have to re-approve everything. So approved should still be flowing through to the save routines regardless.

I wondered if the display template had somehow broken the sending of approval values to the backend in the first place.

Alright, thanks - I get the idea. I was guessing on an assumption that with post moderation disabled, you probably couldn't check for a posts approval state, but I take it you should be able to do that then.

I turned post moderation on, then set all posts to be automatically approved. Will that fix it maybe?

Now, best I can say is it shouldn't hurt to try.
It might make the error go away, even if that setting wasn't actually why it appeared in the first place.
But if that wasn't the cause - then it could be a good idea to actually find out what is.

-shrug- I doubt it'll fix your problem, but sure, whatever you say. I forgot too late which site is yours and how I'm still not welcome there.

Nobody ever said you weren't welcome there. It is a conservative leaning, non-PC public forum where members can speak their mind without having to worry about being messed with by the mods or owners like what is happening on Twitter and Facebook. I'm not going to mess with liberals posts, profile, etc because they happen to be liberal. You cant say that about Jack Dorsey. Social media is on the verge of being regulated as a utility if that nonsense doesnt stop. If that happens, I wonder how it will affect forums like mine. Everyone is welcome on my forum. I reccomend liberal members wear a flame-proof suit.

The very title makes me feel unwelcome since I'm exactly the kind of person you outright claim to be 'fed up with'. I'm anti-conservative, reasonably pro-PC and the fact you start out from a premise of labelling people *as liberals* means you're already in a position where I'd even feel comfortable being in the vicinity.

For a place that claims to welcome everyone, having a literal title of 'fed up with liberals' is a great way to alienate people that don't think like you do. In other words, you want a place where you can say what you like and don't care who you offend, which means it will be full of toxic attitudes. The fact you 'reccomend (sic) liberal members wear a flame-proof suit' simply means you will treat such people as punching bags who don't agree with your ideological standpoints.

Just curious,  do you condem what Dorsey and Zuckerberg are doing? Shadow banning conservatives, messing with their posts and follower lists? The same stuff you think will happen on my forum? If you approve of that, that's too bad. You need to go study the 1st amendment.

Sure I do. However, you're making a false equivalency fallacy - you're assuming that because I don't agree with you, that by some weird logic I agree with them.

Also, I've studied the first amendment just fine (not that it's relevant to me, I'm not American). In fact I think you should study it because I think you don't understand what it means for 'freedom of speech'.

Quote
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Congress won't limit religions being created, won't limit religions being practiced (interesting how convenient that is until the religion isn't Christian), and Congress won't create a law that restricts freedom of speech, or of the press, before meandering into people gathering in a group and having rights to petition for things to be fixed.

The key part is the middle part. That outlines what Congress may or may not do. A forum on the other hand is not (usually) a governmental body, meaning that it is a private entity just like Facebook and Twitter and may do whatever the hell they like, subject to other laws.

You see, even in the context of freedom of speech, speech isn't free. There are plenty of things you are not legally allowed to say, consider for example yelling fire in a crowded movie theatre. (If you assume this is consequence free, you are solely mistaken.)

And freedom of speech is no defence for posting various kinds of material; if freedom of speech were a right that were absolute, death threats would be legal as would child pornography because both are arguable under 'freedom of speech' inasmuch as artistic expression can also be a freedom of speech.

Except in this world, freedom of speech isn't absolute, and even if it was, you run a private site just like Facebook and can therefore say whatever the hell you like provided it is otherwise legal (or that you take 'reasonable steps' to deal with such, e.g. DMCA takedowns)

I don't give a hoot what 'freedom' you talk about - you claim that your site has freedom of speech but you're using that as a defence to cover the fact that you intend to bully and discriminate against those who don't subscribe to the same ideological traits as you do. The very fact you're turning into 'us and them' (liberals vs conservatives) is evidence of this. Especially when you consider that I'm liberally minded but don't split down the middle perfectly because the same constructs don't apply in my country in the same way and we're not so full of hard-ons for "freedom".

The upshot of which is that I find your site morally repugnant and haven't worked out a good way to filter out your posts from everyone else's (because blocking doesn't really work for me for various in-depth reasons) so that I could just ignore your topics because I don't like the idea of helping you propagate this kind of content even though I know full well I have no methodology of stopping you, nor would it be defensible for me to say your site shouldn't be able to exist (I don't like your opinions, but I recognise you have the right to express them. You will notice I am not suggesting you get a flame proof suit, because I don't feel the need to bully you for your opinions. I do, however, feel the need to at least attempt to correct your logical and historical fallacies.)

Well there is an easy fix for you. If you dont have thick enough skin to take part in a conservative forum, then just stay away from it and my posts here. Simple.

That's the general idea but I read enough peoples' posts that I forget which one is you until I've already started trying to help. Though I love how you claim to be liberal in attitude (hint: the word literally means open minded) but in the same breath call it conservative (hint: the word means not changing and rigidly trying to stick to the status quo) and have sufficient amounts of hate for 'liberals' just because they dare to challenge the status quo.
