Maybe... maybe even probably

But rc does mean that there may still be changes,  if deemed necessary.

However... I will point out once again that this thread is not for support.

Does RC2 resolve the various issues with custom smileys that had been reported?
I am waiting until I'm told the smileys are working before I implement a bunch of custom ones on my forum.

See for yourself. :)

Go to the GitHub repository, click on the Issues tab, and search for "is:issue label:Smileys" in the Filters field. That'll show you the current status of all issues (both open and closed) related to smileys. If you want to see the status of pull requests related to smileys as well, drop the "is:issue" part from your filters.

GitHub scares me, or rather intimidates me. I have totally no idea how it works, I appreciate your guidance but I'm wondering if there's a simple answer to this specific question:

"If I install a custom smiley set on my 2.1 RC2 forum, will that continue to work as upgrades occur?"

Another way to phrase this would be "Is it safe to install a custom smiley set without the likelihood of losing it subsequently?"

I'd be interested to know the answer to this also ... or is it elsewhere in the forum - many thanks

again slowed rc3 and the final as it will take a long time.
we want to see the final version if you give a little speed

Each version of SMF 2.1 is reset from zero. this is very difficult to regulate everything from the beginning

And we would like you to be more patient.

I'm just a minor cog in SMF translation, but by my current estimate (unless somebody else steps in to help), the language packs I'm involved in will need at least 15(!) more weeks of my (free, unpaid, evening and weekend) time until they're ready. (This isn't even touching the code, features, bugfixes of SMF.)

But of course complaining is much easier than actually doing something to move the release forward.

They shouldn't be changed from the database, and when uploading all the new files for the large upgrade process, it shouldn't replace any of your custom files (unless they have the same name/folders as the default ones, so they'd be overwritten).

Look folks, stop the complaining, these folks are volunteering their personal time to make 2.1 a final release for you and me. The more you complain, is not going to help make these same folks move any faster, in fact all the complaining could just make some of the volunteers just say to hell with it, and pack it in..Now where would we be, waiting even longer..

I know it takes time to do all the changes and coding, try taking a course in coding, for yourself, and see how you like it, it's tedious.

In stead of complaining, give these folks some "Praise" for a change, let them know they are valuable and worthwhile.

I like what I see and I can wait for the final..I hope you can also.

FWIW, RC1 to RC2 was just shy of two months, and it's only been a little over a month since RC2 so...

Gwenwyfar

And there's actually 2.0.16 before that, which is long overdue.

I guess people thought the devs can develop even faster :P :D.

Umm no it isn't 'reset to zero' you just need to upload it differently rather than through the package manager. This has always been the case with alpha, beta and RC versions.  You do not need to 'regulate everything from the beginning'.

Now shaddup.

I assume he means that it removes all his customisations and mods... but that's not a new thing (it's been that way for 15 years) and if you're making core changes and not either using version control or packages, you really are doing it wrong anyway.

Congratulations on RC2 - heartfelt!

2 months later now. How is the progress?

To anyone complaining, do you work 24/7/365? No, I didn't think so.
Any free open source project is largely dependant on the community around it, and in SMF's case, more precisely the select community members that actually contribute. As more of an end user myself, as opposed to a dev - I think we are all lucky to have people interested in giving their free time away for our benefit, and even if we don't always all agree on everything, as long as I don't offer an alternative solution, I know I at least have to make a strong case for my differing opinion, and not just complain. ;) For the time being, 2.0 is also the only supported stable branch, and that means 2.1 can not always take priority.
