Help is needed to reconnect my attachment directory or directories

1. I hope you did a backup before upgrading.
2. Did you delete the attachments directory?
3. What happens if you manually enter the directory url now - does it thne find it?.

1. The directory and files are intact, SMF just doesn't want to connect...
2. As you can see in the attached screenshots, SMF does "see" the files
3. When try to fix it I still get an error :

QuoteOops, there seems to be a problem.
https://www.brfff.com/forum/attachments: Unable to move or rename. Please verify that the path is correct or that this directory does not contain any sub-directories.

I've tried entering the url, and the server path, but still get the "Does not exist"

4. there are two attachment directories in the forum folder

/public_html/forum/attachmentsPreREI

/public_html/forum/attachments

5. at the same time strange characters are appearing in place of apostrophes

should read

Quoteex - I'm not going to live with you through one more fishing season!”

me - There's a season?

Attachment Directories... when I add the full path it adds that directory but shows it as empty....

If I try and change the directory  that shows all of the files it give an error "Unable to move. A directory already exists at that path."

getting closer to fixing this....

After finally getting the directories listed (they appeared empty) I ran Attachment integrity check in File Maintenance and it appears to have reconnected the attached images...
