Can't install mods

I have a new installed smf forum and want to install some mods on it, but every time i click install i get this error message

You cannot download or install new packages because the Packages directory or one of the files in it are not writable!

I checked it and folder and files are chmod 777 so they are writeable.

I have php5.6 on the server

Try 775 or 755 - some servers don't like 777.

if you dont have a temp folder in the packages folder, create it and that may fix the issue as well.

and make your packages/temp dir 755
