Stop posting above child boards?

I wanted to stop any posting in boards, when there's a child (sub) board.

I found a mod for that....that removed the "new topic" buttons when in the board above the sub-board, but that mod wasn't compatible with my version (2.0.15) so I didn't install, as recommended.

Where I have sub-boards, I only want people to post in the sub-boards.

Is this possible?

Thanks!

Sure, change the permissions on the parent board - select the Read Only permissions profile in that board's configuration.

I tried that and it took the post buttons out of the child boards too.  Either I didn't something incorrectly or.....one of my mods is interfering with the permissions, or something else.

Only a guess on my part.

Permissions aren't magically hierarchical - I'd guess that whichever permissions profile you set on the different boards, you removed the permissions for posting from it.

You need to change the parent board (where you don't want posts) to use a different *profile*, you go to the board configuration itself, change the profile - a.k.a. set of permissions for groups - for that board.

Ok great.  I found it.  Change the upper board to "read only".

Thanks for sending me in the right direction.
