change server

hi I have a new server and I backed up the files via ftp of the db via phpmyadmin
now a doubt arises
come I have to proceed in the new server to not lose all the files'
because I have an old version of SMF and have gone out at least 4-5
what do I install the new raw file and then we overwrite the files and then use the file upgrade.php?

Make sure are patched up to at least SMF 2.0.13 if you have php 5.4 or higher you can go up to SMF 2.0.15

I would wait for final release though just in case as it is still in RC version release.
