Delete "Newbie" member group?

I do not need / want the post no. based groups.... so why can't I delete the newbie group?

Because if you do, SMF will break. Badly.

It is down to how groups are physically implemented - there absolutely MUST be a post count group starting at 0 posts in the system. Rename it to Member if you must, but it must exist.

(As for what will happen if you don't, every single member will be promoted to a full admin next time anyone makes a post. It is a known system limitation that no-one has yet figured out a good way to solve.)
