Looking

I wish it were as simple as installing a mod. I could go into depth here but the basics: unique content and a niche.

Mick.

For one, you have way too many ads and unwanted pop ups. It drove me away. Because theyre available it does not mean you have to use them. Too many ads

1st. What @Tonyvic said. Avast antivirus doesn't like your site, it's most likely the ad service you're using. I'm not sure who specifically you are using for ads but I got pornographic ads.

2nd. What @Mick said. Pop up after popup.

3rd. What @Looking said. Optimus SEO won't get you traffic.

4th and final. Your traffic needs to be helped along, ie. LOTS of social media interactivity. You need to post links to your articles on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc. Not just on your own pages either. You need to post them in established groups who have interest in your site specific topics. Just because a site is on the internet it doesn't mean it automatically becomes popular. You have to work at it and put time and effort into it. It normally takes over a year to repeat traffic coming back. You have to be unique with your topics too. Post interesting stuff nobody else does.

Unless you're a porn site, I wouldn't bother with whatever it is you're using now.

Use adsense. You're going to have to be patient and in it for the long haul if you intend to make money. The two most important rules I have are, constantly post unique, engaging articles that will stoke both positive and negative interest, ie. something you know people will disagree with. That will produce discourse and people will become engaged. Post all of your topics/articles in facebook groups and on pages you are a member of. But don't spam the crap out of those groups or pages because the admins will find you to be annoying and ban you.

I would also suggest allowing guests to post and comment but ensure your security is turned on so you don't get all of the bots and trashy spammers chewing up all of your bandwidth. When you use security include a challenge question and make sure it includes special characters example. "Type #baseball!?" in the field below the captcha.

Patients is the key, it doesn't happen overnight. You have to get return traffic consistently and keep them coming back so they invite others to join them. It will take over a year to make as much as $5. I'm what is considered small beans to other sites I compete with and I make about $30-$50 a month. Which is fine with me, it pays for my hosting, domain renewals and any customization's I need developed.

Search Engine Optimization is the best way to increase traffic. You can use social media for sharing your post and attract new visitors.

ummm.... no.
SEO for forums is basically useless -- because you do not control the content of the forum posts.

I mean, you can do things like the Optimus Brave mod to improve the scanability of the site pages -- but content is KING for search engines and you don't control the way the users put the content in.

Buying backlinks is not really a good idea and is likely to be a waste of money.

Overusing Adverts will drive people away, even if they come to your site. MINIMAL ads is ok, but the more adverts you have, the less likely people are to stay.

CONTENT!

Unless you have a forum which is unique in what it offers, it is going to take a LONG TIME for a new forum to break into the market.
