I know I posted this on the wrong topic, but I don't understand Kindred's diagnosis so I am starting a new thread here in hopes of getting a clarification:

I'm having a problem attempting to post to an existing topic, or start a new one. Following is the error and information from the log

Type of error: Database
Database Error: Field 'edit_reason' doesn't have a default value
http://<our url name>/boards/index.php?action=post2;start=0;board=42
/home/<host name>/public_html/smf21/boards/Sources/Subs-Post.php (Line 1788).

The edit reason column is indeed null, should I modify it to contain something?

Sir Osis of Liver

Is the field value null as in empty, or null as in 'null'?

You should give it a default value. The error happens when the db expects a value, but none is given and it threatens to stay empty. Null is a valid default value, as it is not the same as empty.

How you can help SMF

Kindred

this is due to the "edit reason" mod....

As stated, you have to assign a default value (usually NULL) to the database column.
You do that in phpmyadmin

you have to make it the default value for the column... not just check if there is a setting in the column now.

Thank you

will try to do the same. Will acknowledge if it works.
