Been overrun with spam and bots....

and I'm done with it.  Went a day without checking the site, and there were over 1,000 spam posts from bots.  Had been doing alright keeping on top of it, but it just keeps getting worse.  It is to the point I deleted all boards on the forum, and if I could find some way to shut it down outright, I would.  How do I shut down the forum?

As a temporary solution disable registrations, that'll give you a break while you clean up, and put some of the suggested anti spam methods in place..  Admin > Members > Registration > Settings.

Searched this forum? You'd known all about how to stop spambots instantly and indefinitely. A few minutes of work, they are gone.

Install the scanner plugin from stopforumspam.com. it compares the IP, username, and email of all registrants and blocks all with matches in their database. After you install it, go to its admin settings and click all three boxes. I use this on 2 forums and it works great.
