Index Error

I am receiving the following error on first access to the boards:

Type of error: Undefined
8: Undefined index: avatar
http://xxxxx.xxxxxxxxxxxxxx.us/boards/index.php [nofollow]?
/home/xxxxxxxx/public_html/smf21/boards/Themes/Badem_RC2/BoardIndex.template.php (Line 238)

It happens every time someone accesses the boards, but only their initial access. After that everything works fine and no more errors.
