Mick.

Hey guys, the other day I noticed that if I write a long a post and post it, it only posts half of it even when it shows completely in preview. ITried on simple portal pages and same thing too. I checked my post settings and the max is at zero. I also checked my dev site under the same domain diff folder and same thing. I also checked on my 2.1 installation but it worked good. Only changes I do on my site are usually css stuff and nothing much anywhere else.

I'm stumped at this and need some pointers on where to look? Mick.

Convert to UTF-8. Anything else can and will lose data over time.

Thank you. I can do that. Hopefully that'll fix this annoying issue lol.

Illori

it is known to fix the issue, that is why SMF 2.1 is UTF-8 only.

The other case is when you have 0 set as the maximum and then enter more than 65535 bytes, but the column hasn't been increased; only solution for that is to force it to grow the column to mediumtext  by putting the max as more than 100000 or so, where SMF has to make the column bigger to allow for posts that big, as opposed to having it as 0 where it just doesn't bother to check size limits.

I converted it on my dev site and posted the exact same thing and it worked perfect. Tho I tried on my main site but ran into a database error. [I will look into it as soon I get behind my puter].

I think you got it Arantor,  I always used zero. The thing is I tried to write an article but it has 10 embeds from codepen using  html tags. It just I've never used so many in one post. Hmmmmm lemme take another look at the max.

Mick.

Before I can convert, I have to fiux this issue:

You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'desc desc blob NOT NULL,
CHANGE COLUMN albums albums blob NOT NULL' at line 5
File: /home/***/public_html/Sources/ManageMaintenance.php
Line: 664

Note: It appears that your database may require an upgrade. Your forum's files are currently at version SMF 2.0.15, while your database is at version 2.0.2. The above error might possibly go away if you execute the latest version of upgrade.php.

Albums? Blob? I dont even remember having a gallery mod in my site. Maybe, maybe not. Im currently investigating in the database.

Arantor

Congratulations you found an SMF bug.

Basically ManageMaintenance can't handle doing the conversion if the column being changed is also a word that has special meaning in MySQL ('desc' is used in 'ORDER BY column DESC'). Blob is just a specific type of data, like a text column but can also contain binary data, so that's not an issue.

Can't comment on the gallery but if you're not using that table (and you know for sure you're not), you could delete it.

Whoa!
Looking at it I did used AEVA and smf gallery at some point. Im still trying to find such tables.

I could delete both right? Im not using them at all.

Mick.

Sigh:::::
Well I dropped them tables just fine. Tried to convert and now another error lol

Column 'subject' cannot be part of FULLTEXT index
File: /home/****/public_html/Sources/ManageMaintenance.php
Line: 664

That line is the same line in the first error.

Illori

in the SMF admin panel, drop/remove the search index, convert, and recreate the search index.

You mean Weights, Search Method, Settings, in admin? If so, it's already set to: No index.

Illori

then even if it is set to no index somehow it has an index set and you need to remove it.

next to where it say fulltext index does it say remove full text index? if so click on it then convert it to UTF-8.
