My first post, so I'd like to say thank-you to the SMF team for bringing us this great software.  :)

I've been running a SMF forum for about 5 years with no problems but today I got notified of a fatal error. Inspecting the error message showed a problem with the "Settings.php" file. Looking at the SMF install directory online I can see that at 13:06 today a backup file was made, "Settings_bak.php", and a new "Settings.php" file created. Both of these files are empty. Nothing in the error logs.

I restored a back up of "Settings.php" but I'm wondering how this could have happened.

Thanks in advance.

It's a known issue with race condition when there is a database error that attempts to write to that file.  It is fixed for sure in SMF 2.1
