Upgrade from 15 to 17 question

I was waiting for the weekend to upgrade to 16 from 2.0.15
I was tied up with the holidays, I now see 2.0.17 is out.

Do I let my forum patch to 16, then I take it 17 or do I download 2.0.17 and have package manager install it.

As the forum itself, it only shows to patch to 16.

Yes, first install 2.0.16 and then 2.0.17 as it'll pop up in the Package Manager.

Now if there is a glitch, I will have my DB backed up from right before the update from 15 to 16 to 17 but how would it be going beck to 15?    I have another forum that I updated to 17 but when i uploaded an older DB to the server, the page still reads SMF 17, not the 15 from the DB.   

Is it back to 15 and the splash page is just showing 17?

the version is based on the files....

so, if you want to revert, you need to restore both the database AND the files
