Davejo...   bad process.
If you're h going to ban a bunch like that,  you should do it in htaccess, not in smf

Please explain why Kindred?
If you want quizzes to add to the new SMF2.1 quiz mod go here . There are also walkthroughs in the forum to explain how to install them and other tips.

1- using SMF bans requires the SMF system to initialize and load -- Using htaccess stops the individual before the server even starts to load the forum.

1a- because SMF loads, it is using processing and bandwidth of the server/connection.

2- the SMF ban list loads on every page load. The more bans your system has, the more processing it can use and the slower pages will load, eventually...

onsidering both of these points --   IP Bans, unless they are temporary are best done through htaccess, not SMF.

Thanks very much for the explanation Kindred, I will look in to the htaccess option.

I agree with Kindred here:

which brings me back nicely to the subject of my thread here:

As I said: I want to redirect all the blocked IPs (IPs! Not banned members!) to an html-page,
i.e. a number of  IP ranges (read post #1).

Can anybody help me with that? That would be greatly appreciated.

Kindred

Why? If they are blocked, just block them. Don't waste bandwidth on a page at all

Why? Because I want to try some stuff out. Is that forbidden or what!?

And this is my thread, stay out of it if you only want to derail it. You are not helping at all!!

Am understanding the interest for htaccess application, the more one masters, the better.
stackoverflow.com is a good source to tap into, example https://www.google.com/search?q=stackoverflow+htaccess+redirect+range
