How to link to an attached image

I would like to be able to attach an image and embed it to the same post but I don't know how to do that. Could you give me a hint, please.

What version of SMF? Are you using SMF 2.1?

Ah, sorry. I am using 2.0.7. I though this was the latest one.

Do you mean 2.0.7 or 2.0.17? 2.0.7 is several years old, and in any case this would be the wrong board for it.

To answer your question, this is not something that SMF 2.0.x can do out of the box in any version and I don't know if the add-ons to do it are still available anywhere.

You did, but it's fiddly, tedious and still shows the attachment at the bottom of the post, which I assume the OP was trying to avoid; the feature to do this is in 2.1 but not 2.0.
