Merging multiple post into one!
« on: October 05, 2020, 06:11:03 AM »
Is there anything around that merge multiple posts?

Many people hate when I do multiple post apparently, Could we have a merging feature? :) Like if a post is close to another post and the same person writes, that it merges the post with the former and put a timestamp on it so you still only have 1 profile info and 1 post.

Hey, I'm always full of good ideas - I just don't do programming ;)

Would help the moderaters and the users as well.

Because you couldn’t possibly use the edit button?

Well, yea :) If the forum has a problem with double posting, that's a great solution against people like me, and kinda also help for both. Win win situation - and that is always a great thing.

I don't know if there would be any problems fixing a merge, afterwards, I guess the merge could have a stamp from since the last post had been posted. As to say if one edited afterwards it would still have the stamp for any to see that this was posted later and yet being able to be edited by the user having the last edit tag date on as well.

Just an idea, putting it out there. When things are running smooth, users are happy :) And when they see something unexpected that helps them and do not interfere with there progress, then they can get surprisingly positive, and maybe think, that's kinda cool. And then they won't have admins or other users shooting them down as well ;) It's a win win feature!

Maybe this one, though it's quite outdated, but it should work IFAIK:

Doesn’t work on 2.0.x.

Live627 should have a 2.0 mod kicking around somewhere for it.

strange because that's the mod I have on my 2.0.17s
and nevermind, I see where I had posted the changes I made to make it work but it was removed because I had attached it as there were a lot and that went against the tos...
and well that was a year ago,  :P I don't remember what I did to fix it....

so I mean well...you just gotta fix it and make it work but it can work with some time and patience.... I mean if I can get it working then just about anyone could get it working

Sorry, I guess I should have said “doesn’t work on 2.0.x unless you fix the things so it works on 2.0.x”... so it doesn’t work as is on 2.0.x...

LOL, but yea looks good with the merging thing and data on it :)

Although it seems it needs a manual override? I was thinking of it doing it automatically by forum default. Then any admin which had any issue with double posting would not need to worry about that problem any longer.

never be an actual feature...   that, along with many other things, is and should stay as a mod.
Please do not PM, IM or Email me with support questions.  You will get better and faster responses in the support boards.  Thank you.

It's actually a default feature in Wedge done in a really interesting way where the actual posts stay unmerged (so can be split etc.) but are presented somewhat unified.

But like I said, live627 should have a mod for this (pretty sure it's one of the ones I wrote originally and gave him)
