RC3 self-install on GoDaddy blank page

I am trying to install SMF 2.1 RC3 on my GoDaddy Unix shared-hosting. I created a database, an admin account for it, uploaded the files in my test folder on the server ("the website"), and pointed the browser to the SMF install file there. Upon execution, all I get is a blank page, no error message.

Not having much of a clue what to do next... I have searched for this problem and possible solutions, but no luck. It is just as true that in cPanel I don't seem to find my way around as easily as some years back. But I can see that the database I created does exist (although empty at this point).

I would appreciate any help to get me going.

Because you mentioned GoDaddy - please make sure all relevant files you uploaded, are still there. GoDaddy has a habit of deleting files uploaded via FTP.
