How to "freeze" my forum

In the near future I will need to sort of freeze my forum. Meaning, while I want guests and members to use the search engine to find posts, I don't want new members registering or existing members to create new posts. I will no longer have time to babysit my forum, and don't have a member who can or I would even want to take over.

So is there a way to turn off registration? And prevent members from being able to make new posts, edit or delete their old posts? I imagine the second can be accomplished with permission settings.

I don't want to take the forum down entirely, as people have put a lot effort into their posts and I want them to be able to locate, copy or quote from them.

In Admin you can turn off registration and then for all boards you make them read only. You can also make all groups read only via permissions. Online Manual. Most of those options are marked by the same name in Admin.
