Am I confused about the use of Categories and Forums?

I have created one Category.  I have created many forums in that category.  Those are major different subjects.
Will someone please look at the home page and advise me.

Second issue; I cannot fine where or how to create child forums for existing forums.

I'm not sure what advice you are looking for, other than maybe to create another category to place some boards into

as for creating sub boards (child boards)

in your admin under forum in boards
when adding a new board
see
Order:
it says After ...
change that to Child of ...
and in the drop down next to it select the board you want it to be a child of.

or click on an existing boards modify button
and where it says Order: (Unchanged)
change that to Child of ... and then in the drop down next to it select the board you want it to be a child of.

That was what I needed. Pardon my lack of knowledge about basics.  This is my first work with a forum.

As for categories, just create them the same way as you did the first one and then go to each board and modify it. Use the dropdown that shows what category it is currently in and select the one you want it in.
