Have you tried clearing your cookies?
Also, did you use RC3 installation pack from this site, github or..?

I did clear cookies, and downloaded from this site. I unzipped onto my computer and then FTP'd it to my site.

Are you sure that your browser is not blocking cookies?
Can you post a link to your forum, if it's public?

Which PHP version are you running on your server though?
Are you able to login using the quick login link from the very top of the page?
I can see the login page though, doesn't give me any errors from here.

I had the same issue with a fresh install into a new database on a server running PHP 7.1 and I couldn't login for days - in the end I found the solution in the last post of the topic No Login possible on fresh installation (I'd tried all the other suggestions in the topic).

Basically I had to access the database using cPanel and make the following edits in the 'settings' table:
1.  Change globalCookies to 0
2.  Add localCookies and set it to 1.

PHP 7.4

The top of page login option, once I enter my account name and password, gives me: You were unable to login. Please check your cookie settings

I just gave that a try, but no joy.

I changed globalCookies to 0
but I already had the localCookies set at 1

I might delete this install and try again.

I downloaded the GitHub version, and overwrote my files with that.

The registration is now working, but I must have stuffed up on the admin somehow, as it now says "That username does not exist".

I am guessing the version in this site has the problem, and the GitHub one might be OK.

I will delete the entire thing, and database, and start again later today.

I got it!!

I was reading this post: https://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=577080.msg4084586#msg4084586

My database setting for 'globalCookiesDomain' was 'com.au'

I changed it to "0"

It now allows me to log in as the admin user.

My site is a .com.au site.
The other poster was a .co.uk site

I will (at some stage) try it with another site, a .com site, and see if it has issues with that, but I am guessing that .com sites will be OK.

I also changed 'globalCookiesDomain' to 0 but I didn't post that change in my message above because @dungeonseeker didn't seem convinced that it helped - glad you got it sorted.
