First, some information would be helpful:
 - php version?
 - mysql version?
 - Did you download RC3 from this site or get the latest from GitHub?
 - What mods are installed?

If you re-attempt the upgrade, and check the box to 'Output extra debugging information', what is the last step to successfully complete?

Have you had an opportunity to run with the extra debugging information?

My *theory* here is that this is an issue with that build of MariaDB.  We have sometimes seen MariaDB reserved keywords conflict with SMF column names, and that can impact installs & upgrades.  The problem here is the set of keywords seems to vary, and most MariaDB users have no issues whatsoever.  But if we know exactly where the issue is, we can usually work past it.
