Hey guys!

I have had my website on e107 for several years, and I have now updated to version 2.1.

But is it possible to convert from e107 til SimpleMachines or phpBB? And what are the pros and cons with SimpleMachines vs. phpBB?

Thanks in advance for your feedback and input!

a quick search and yes there is a converter for e107

as for converting to phpbb....well you should ask over at phpbb ;) honest I don't know and sorry I'm not going there to search for it

personally I like smf better (obviously, since that's why I'm here)
I ran phpbb for many of years and it was ok for my needs back then but I outgrew it....phpbb is more plug and play whereas smf is easier to modify and customize to my own personal needs.
And well, if you need support on phpbb, good luck with that, especially with packages and stuff......whereas here mod creators more than not actually do support their stuff.

Welcome! :)

SMF and phpBB are both well known, free, customizable, easy to install, and offer free support and custom packages to modify your install to your needs. I suggest you should really try both and see which feels better for you and your use case.

That being said, SMF has a good long time reputation in terms of security and support.
The software is built with a fairly robust permission system that lets you run your forum the way you want to,
and our support forum here has a lot of friendly volunteers both on and off the team willing to help a new user find their way around the software. These among many other things are some of the reasons I've preferred SMF over phpBB personally.

Really useable answers, thanks a lot!

And yes, I know I probably should make a phpbb tread as well, so that could be my next step  ;)
