V 2.0.15
I had a member that I did not approve (I manually approve all members) start a topic and post in Russian.
I deleted him and his post but how would someone get in like that?
I don't see anything in the Admin or Mod logs. He just appeared.

Shambles

Do you have Tapatalk installed?

Steve

After you answer that, any reason you don't upgrade to 2.0.18?
Please do not PM me for support.

Even though OP hasn't revisited this thread since posting, I believe the issue lies with the default Tapatalk setting that says "Automatically approve members registered with Tapatalk"; hence my question.

If so, the Tapatalk settings can be changed to disallow automated registration via the app.

Is Tapatalk SMF mod or something else? I don't get it why people have it if it makes so much problems.

back when....before sites where mobile friendly, there was tapatalk that basicly strips your site down to be mobile friendly and removes most images and such
I used it like a decade ago but these days it's not really needed as most sites are now mobile friendly and use lazyload and things to reduce mobile data usage

but for some reason folks still use it even though it causes all kind of security and other issues, it also allowed you to use one login (tapatalk) for many sites

there used to be a mod here on smf for it but tapatalk did not keep the mod updated nor did they reply to their support thread here, eventually it was removed from here, again due to security issues that the refused to fix

Whatever the why's and wherefore's of the Tt app, the OP (a member of 7+ years) really ought to respond, unless of course he/she is unable to do so, for whatever reason.

Tt does offer a fascinating push notification service, which some might find useful.

To me, the whole intrusion aspect of this Chinese service presents a risk in itself. I've added responsive features to my main website and will be considering discontinuing Tt in the new year.

Sorry for the delay - I was on the watch and I saw the same person apply the next day but didn't automatically get in. No, I don't have Tapatalk installed.

I have a lot of mods installed that I am afraid aren't compatible.

Kindred

Practically any mod for 2.0.x will work on any 2.0.x

Refusing to upgrade is tantamount to leaving your site hackable
Please do not PM, IM or Email me with support questions.  You will get better and faster responses in the support boards.  Thank you.<br /><br />"Loki is not evil, although he is certainly not a force for good. Loki is... complicated."

No
hm, this is normally a tale tell sign that tapatalk mod is installed
is there another admin or moderator that could have approved the persons request?
could it have been a member you previously approved and they changed their name/email/info?

I have a lot of add-ins installed that I am afraid aren't compatible.
if you use a lot of mods you can update via patches
downloading them one by one and uploading them to your packages folder and installing them like any mod
SMF 2.0.15 to SMF 2.0.16
then SMF 2.0.16 to SMF 2.0.17
and then SMF 2.0.17 to SMF 2.0.18

what all mods do you have installed?
in your admin under members then under registration then under settings
make sure that
Method of registration employed for new members
is still set to admin approval

Only me. Admin logs show nothing about this member except when I deleted him.

That is how we got to 2.0.15 from 1.1.x. It always says to uninstall all mods prior to updating. Are you saying that I don't need to uninstall?

It's not that I refuse (I started this site with version 1.1.x back in 2012 when we switched to SMF), I have been patching quite a bit since.
It always says to uninstall all mods prior to patching and I'd prefer not to uninstall all the mods, as you see in my previous post I have like 30 mods installed.
I was patching and got to 2.0.16 and had several errors in the Test install, so I stopped at 2.0.15.

Steve

I've never had to uninstall my mods when patching. Are you familiar with this:

I don't think I've seen this, I'll check it out - thanks.
