I know there was a similar topic..

Illori

SMF 2.0 will not be getting any new features.

Arantor

Spending yet more time on 2.0 features just slows down 2.1 even more, let's not, please.
Perhaps it would have been better if I'd simply never bothered. Y'all clearly would be less unhappy that way.

while there are quite a few things that I, myself, think should be a core feature of smf...I understand why they are not...but that's what mods are for
but sorry 2.0.x won't get any new features built in, I can't say won't but more than likely not gonna happen

2.1.x might, but there again, that's what mods are for

not every one wants to rely on a 3rd party app for a core function

Kindred

I have removed the poll since it serves no purpose.

You have been answered.

Kindred I didn't think the dev community was so corrupt here that it took such action o0

Arantor

It's not that it's corrupt, it's just you're unfamiliar with the way the world works and complaining isn't going to change that.

SMF 2.0 debuted in 'released' form in 2011 - July 2011, 2.0.0 (after several betas and 'release candidates'). At that point it gets no more features, and the 19 patches since then are security fixes and things to keep SMF working.

Even before that with both 1.0 and 1.1... once they were released in 'stable' form, they got no more features. Every new feature went into the new version.

Nothing has changed - new features go into 2.1, once 2.1.0 is out no more features in that version, only security fixes and 'keeping it running' patches, so then new features go into 2.2 or 3.0.

SMF is not going to change its policy that it's had for 18 years just because you don't like it. Removing the poll was just making this abundantly clear, after you'd been told by three people who have held the 'project manager' page (one still does) and one who held the 'development team' badge.
Perhaps it would have been better if I'd simply never bothered. Y'all clearly would be less unhappy that way.

dodos26

Isn't improving your anti-spam protection an improvement in security?
He removed the poll because the number of users would be greater than the number of developers. O:)

Illori

No this is not related to the security of the software to deal with hacking.

dodos26

In that case, to make the forum work faster, let's remove it completely :)

Arantor

Or, we could not.

You see, changing it is effort that is taken away from other things. If we work on pointless changes to 2.0 (anything you do not like you can turn off), that's time not spent on 2.1 which just means everyone loses.
Perhaps it would have been better if I'd simply never bothered. Y'all clearly would be less unhappy that way.

Kindred

Corrupt??  Really?  Thanks for the chuckle.

I removed a poll which was pointless and would only confuse people.
If I was corrupt, I would have deleted this whole thread and banned you. :P

At this point, it doesn't matter if you agree or not. 3 of the 6 steering committee members, including the Project Manager have told you that it's not going to happen in 2.0. The reasons have been explained, several times.

There is a mod.
2.0 is not receiving any new features.

Issue solved.

not sure how it's "corrupt" to remove an unneeded poll in a support topic thread

there's a mod for 2.0.x if you wish to use recaptcha on your site and i'm sure there will be one for 2.1.x when it goes stable

as I said before there's plenty of things that I, myself feel should be core features that most others would not...that's why there are mods

and in this instance, not many would want to rely on a 3rd party app as part of a core feature

but the end result is that 2.0.x won't have new features added as arantor stated 2.0.x went stable back in 2011....
2.1 on the other hand is still being developed and may get a few new features added if there's another rc version, though honestly at this point I doubt that, now it's just fixing remaining bugs to get it to stable release

and not sure how recaptcha is a security issue....a means to help prevent spambots maybe ok, but not a security breach issue
and using a good handful of questions specific to your site that a user could answer but a bot couldn't works pretty well at stopping spambots

now for 2.1 I wouldn't mind seeing this as a core feature
https://custom.simplemachines.org/index.php?mod=4278
but again ;) that's the good thing about mods  ;D

Better than reCAPTCHA at this point which is also borderline Google spyware. But given that you can pay $2 for 1000 CAPTCHAs broken, it's not hard to get bypassed.
Perhaps it would have been better if I'd simply never bothered. Y'all clearly would be less unhappy that way.

This is not something that is changed through a vote on the support boards.
