Hi

Is there any reason why I cannot paste rich text into SMF? I can paste rich text into other Apps except SMF.... I know that I can edit the text to show rich text

Please advise
Ron

If you use the WYSIWYG editor, it will sort of do rich text posting - but it's very, very buggy and generally unrecommended. It's better in 2.1 though because it has a whole new editor.

In general rich text posting onto web apps is very variable and likely to break in some way no matter whatever application you try it in.

Also, you need to make sure your smf is using utf8
Please do not PM, IM or Email me with support questions.  You will get better and faster responses in the support boards.  Thank you.

Please tell me where I can find this......

Arantor

If you're using 2.0, it doesn't install as UTF-8 by default, which means going into the maintenance area in the admin panel and using the convert option (take a backup first!!!!)

If you're using 2.1, it will have either installed as UTF-8 or if you upgraded from 2.0, it would perform the conversion for you, so on 2.1 where the better editor is, you'll already be on UTF-8.

(This site uses 2.1 in case it's not clear.)

Arantor

Well, did you switch to rich text mode?

Did you try it here for example?

This is what I get

Arantor

Well, I'm not quite sure what you hoped you'd get. It's a WYSIWYG editor that can handle *some* rich formatting.

You also didn't make it clear what you were trying to add into it, so I have no way to know whether what you want to do is even possible in the editor, or indeed whether it's possible in the 2.1 editor which isn't a decade old and abandoned...

What I am trying to do, is to create a rich text document (Outside SMF) and then when the need arises, I just copy & paste into SMF.

Appreciate your time & expertise

Arantor

Yes, but what's *in* that document? What formatting are you hoping to produce and just *use* inside SMF?

SMF doesn't support arbitrary styling (no forum platform does), so whatever formatting you're going to use has to work with how the forum itself works. If you're trying to do pictures for example, the pictures need to be online in 2.0, you can't really use pictures from a text document embedded in the document without putting them online somewhere. (And out of the box there's no nice way to use attachments inside a post.)

This what I would like to paste

Please do me a favour....... Create a rich text outside of SMF ( don't format in the SMF editor) and copy & paste in the same message and tell me if you were successful....

Sir Osis of Liver

You mean LIKE THIS?

No, formatting is lost.  Why don't you just use the bbc tags?

Testing.  This works well in SMF when using the editor ...... but what I want to do, is create rich text outside SMF and then copy & paste into an SMF message...

Sir Osis of Liver

No, doesn't work.  RTF formatting is lost if copied into reply editor.
