How to resize avatar in posts

Hello,

So it has been a while. I've searched and tried different things but with no success. Basically, I want to find where (or how to) edit how the avatars are displaying on posts on the message index.

I want them to display at 200x200 or even 100x100, but they stubbornly stay at 64x64. I also want to edit the roundness a bit.

Attached is what I mean, on one pic you'll see how dreadfully small and round they display, on the other you'll see that I set avatar limit at 200 x 200. I've dug around index.css, index.template.php, messageindex.php, boardindex.php; I've yet to find where the stubborn setting is being hard wired in. Any help will be appreciated.

That'd be likely because you have the resize setting enabled in Admin > Forum > Attachments and Avatars > Avatar Settings.

Just change the size of the avatar in there, it's for maximum height and width only, doesn't affect small avatars  :)

Hi, thanks for your input.

I have tried removing that info, but I had no change. I can tell you that it is resizing my avatar because the avatar I used was a 200px by 200px one yet it resized it to 64x64 despite me putting 200x200 in that section.

So is there a way to stop it from shrinking the avatar down to 64x64? And also where can I find the setting that is making the avatar round?

Thanks again.

Hi,

The default curve theme for 2.0.19.

Well, it's not actually the default/default theme.... since rounding the avatar display is not part of the default design.

Also, depending on your settings....  if you had previously set "download and resize" for external avatars -- obviously a change won't update any avatars which are already dealt with.

Well that's interesting since that's what I have the theme set as. I did check out some other themes but decided I liked just editing three curve theme, but I've not added in and rounding code. I do have the responsive curve mod in use as well.

Honestly I'm at a loss then and don't know what to tell you. But, of you could help point me in the direction of where a css or template edit would effect such things with the avatar and post bit, maybe I'll find something there?

If the forum you are having this issue on is the one that you have in your signature link.. You are not even using SMF.. you are using PHPBB.

Sounds like the Avatar Integration Mod. Have you ever had this mod installed? I know this mod rounds off avatars.

Sounds like a mod I have, maybe one like it for the 2.0.19 series though. I'll have to look.

So yeah.... that is definitely NOT the default theme (Curve)

If you STARTED with curve and modified it to that, then you are still no longer running curve/default
(and you probably should reconsider -- it would be better to make a new theme, using curve as the baseline and then modify THAT one -- because if you modify the curve/default that much, you are likely to run into problems with future updates - not to mention the 2.1 update)  which will just erase all of your custom work)

Anyway -- the avatar icons and roundedness are definitely modified by you since avatars are not normally displaye don the messageIndex and seem to have been defined INLINE by you
<img style="width: 32px; height: 32px; left: 0; position: absolute; top: 50%; margin-top: -16px; padding: 0px; border-radius: 50%;" alt="abm_id=50" src=".../boards/index.php?action=dlattach;attach=5;type=avatar">

Oddly enough, the one place in which avatars DO normally display (in the message itself), do not show ANY avatars when I view your page

I'll have to look into how to make that into my own theme then. Thanks for the heads up there

I'm thinking the avatar weirdness must be from a mod since I've not touched that. Heck I'm having trouble finding where that's done. When I get at my computer today I'm going to look at the kids and see which, it any, affect avatars.

Thanks kindred. I've looked in the first two. It was display.template.php that I was missing.

As far as what was causing the issue, it was indeed a mod. Avatars on Board/MessageIndex, version 2.0.17. When I uninstalled that mod, the regular function worked as expected.

Thanks again for all y'all's assistance. I'm marking this solved.
And thanks again for the heads up about the theme Kindred. I looked up how to make it my own theme. It was of course surprisingly simple.
