If there are non-English characters in the subject and the length of the title is adjusted, then the title is distorted.
On another forum, I was told that SMF is not working properly.

Please could you explain what you are requesting.

Its been acknowledged as an actual bug, although the exact triggers are unusual and uncommon, therefore it is low priority.

I don't think it was ever reported or logged as a bug.

I believe the SMF limits are tied to email limitations (any discussion on this was before I even heard of SMF...).  There are also layout concerns.

Increasing the subject length definitely causes email issues.

These email-related limitations are much tougher on multi-byte languages.

This is a design change, I think.  If we allow much longer subjects, we'll have to rework the email interface a bit.  And be prepared for some ugly layout.

Email isn't used by forum members as much as it was back in the day.  It may make sense to get rid of the limitations going forward. 

But the limitations will remain for email no matter what.  (See also: https://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=589251.0)

It happens with any language when the 100 characters limit is exceeded.

That 100-byte limit is more painful for multi-byte languages though, more like 50 or 60 characters in some cases.

You can only fit 29 4-byte chars in a subject line.
